Aspect Furniture Wellington Showroom
As an established New Zealand brand, Aspect Furniture operates at the intersection of innovation and design to offer a diverse range of furniture systems. For a new flagship Wellington studio, Melissa Gray Design was tasked with aligning a physical showroom space to the identity of Aspect.
At its core, the design narrative draws inspiration from the origins of the brand as a local company. Gestures of the rich New Zealand landscape are integrated into the design as a representation of the importance of place to the story of Aspect. A raw material palette is leveraged to express brand authenticity with intentionally - and often radically - juxtaposed materials paired together as considered moments of tactility, texture and tone. Natural timber and stone is partnered with alloys and textiles in an expression of the material innovation which underpins the Aspect ideology.
At the heart of the design strategy is a series of social spaces within which guests are welcomed and presented with the experience of rich materiality and considered detailing. The studio space is occupied by Aspect’s own systems, conscientiously coordinated to blur boundaries between products and physical showroom as a means of demonstrating the critical ethos of innovation. With native beech timbers, Timaru bluestone and merino wool floor coverings, the design narrative deeply centres this space in place as a manifestation of the New Zealand context and the local origins of the Aspect brand.
